Introduction To Neurobiological Model of Animal-Assisted Therapy

In this three hour workshop you will learn about the benefits of including animals in your therapeutic practice, and develop an understanding of the fundamentals of Animal-Assisted Therapy. The workshop will cover a range of topics of interest to mental health professionals, disability and human-service sector staff, educators, and those with a passion for pets and helping people;

  • What is Animal-Assisted Therapy, and what is the Neurobiological Model of Animal-Assisted Therapy (NB-AAT)
  • How do animals impact on the neurobiology of humans
  • What can animals contribute to relationships and the therapeutic process
  • The role of dogs and horses in NB-AAT
  • How to keep animals and people safe – ethical, welfare and safety considerations
